  Head of School

Reggio Emilia

It was very exciting for our two Early Years teachers, Ms. Tanya, and Ms. Kennedy, to work so closely with Dr. Junko Cancemi. “Junko” arrived early at Chitose on Monday and headed immediately to HIS Niseko where she spent the day.

In the afternoon she accompanied EY teachers to Sapporo so that Tuesday morning she could come to be with the EY students and teachers at the Sapporo campus.

Ms. Cancemi was a longtime Early years teacher at Yokohama International School where she introduced the Reggio approach. HIS is bringing Junko-sensei to work with our EY teachers so that they may deepen their understandings on the Reggio approach.

Dormitory Parking

The parking spaces under the new dormitory wing are somewhat low at the far, north end of the building.
The school has installed signs to indicate the height. Please avoid parking tall vehicles in that section.
Our thanks for your cooperation.

 @ Niseko

Greetings from HIS Niseko.

Thank you, Melissa. Moss
Each week, our PTA leader, Melissa Moss reads aloud to our EY and MP1 students. This is a special treat for the kids and a highlight of my week. I celebrate to myself each week knowing my son is in the presence of a fellow lifelong reader.
Thank you, Ms. Moss, for your dedicated efforts to help our students love the written word.

Message from Ms. Yasui
On a somewhat related note, our librarian volunteer, Ms. Yasui is asking for help. She is looking for book titles. Specifically, she would like to order books that your child requests.
Please, send requests by email @, or send her a LINE message. Genres, book titles or authors will suffice. We appreciate your support and cooperation on expanding our HIS Niseko library!

Upcoming Dates:

Our varsity basketball teams have returned from their tournament weekends. The girls were in Nagoya where they placed 3rd and also managed to retain the Husky-Dolphin Challenge by beating NIS. Great job!
Nonno was named MVP
Thanks also go to Coach Marquez and Liz Kennedy from Niseko for chaperoning the girls. Mr. and Mrs. Johnson also for all that they do …. and they do a lot!
The boys in Kobe placed 5th after beating Marist in the final playoff game. Coach Mario and his sidekick Luka for looking after the team. Mr. Aseltine and Shoma for outstanding work on the video and commentary. Best ever! Nicholas was named MVP
Tuesday night between 6-8 pm a professional basketball team will be using our gym for practice. All welcome to come and watch. A great opportunity.
On Tuesday night many students took the chance to watch a visiting professional team from the BLeague do a shooting practice session in our gym. They will play the local team Levanga on Wednesday night at Toyohira Stadium. Pic shows their coach Pep Claros with Mario, Bob and Kiara. There were some tall bodies on display !
Great to see the Jui Jitsu club in the gym Saturday morning working on that martial art. High School students interested should see Mr. Fazio.
Don`t forget SFC Feb 1 2 3 … more details next week.
