WASC Accreditation Visit

ACS-WASC or the Accrediting Commission for Schools: Western Association of Schools and Colleges, is the California-based commission that accredits all California and Hawaii public schools, most private schools along the West Coast and a majority of the international schools in the the Asia-Pacific. ACS-WASC also accredits the East Asia Regional Council of Schools, of which HIS is a member.

Last week was our WASC accreditation visit and the WASC Visiting Committee (VC) spent the entire week at HIS, starting with HIS Niseko where the VC had an opportunity to pose with Mt. Yotei in the background.

On Friday, at the conclusion of the visit, the VC members presented their main findings (Commendations and Recommendations) to the community. We look forward to receiving the full report to learn how best to move forward with our next steps as a school.

MAP Testing
Over the next couple of weeks, HIS students in grades 4-11 will take tests called Measures of Academic Progress (MAP).

We give students MAP tests to determine your child’s instructional level and to measure academic growth throughout the school year (and from year to year) in the areas of Math, Reading, and Language Usage.

MAP tests are unique in that they adapt to be appropriate for your child’s level of learning. As a result, each student has the same opportunity to succeed and maintain a positive attitude toward testing.  And with MAP tests, we can administer shorter tests and use less class time while still receiving detailed, accurate information about your child’s growth.

Over the next three weeks of testing, your child will spend a total of about 4 hours completing these tests.

Each school year, students in grades 4-11 take the tests in the fall and spring.

Fall testing helps your child’s teachers plan instruction according to individual strengths and weaknesses. Following the spring testing period, you will receive a report showing your child’s growth over this year.

For more information, please visit NWEA’s website:
