Online Child Protection Training for Volunteers(for English Speakers)

Last week the school was able to offer child protection training or volunteer parents. For English speakers, there are other options that our staff have made use of in the past. Here is a link to a very helpful online training sight.   If you wish to volunteer at HIS, we strongly encourage you to take advantage of the online training option.  Darkness to Light Click on the “Online Training Login” then select the “Individual” option and then set up a ‘New Account’ with the organization.

Our accreditation requirements have become stricter over the years and we will soon be requiring all volunteers to be trained in child protection understandings.

We hope that this opportunity helps us to be a stronger institution and one that has the best interests of our students in mind.

The Accreditation Cycle

The 2017~18 school year is also a WASC Accreditation year so we will be uniquely focused on what our school is doing and in discovering our strengths and areas for growth. Look for updates and news regarding the WASC Focus on Learning Self Study. We expect to conclude the process through a visit from the Visiting Committee of WASC which will likely be here sometime in April.

As parents, you may be asked to participate in conversations and surveys. We look forward to your support with time as we seek to become an even better school.

Greetings from beautiful Niseko.

Back to School Night
Thank you teachers, students and parents for a wonderful Back to School Night, last night. It is always a joy to see the kids proudly presenting all the good things that are happening and will be happening in the classroom.
It is shaping up to be a fantastic year of learning at HIS Niseko.

What is the Reggio Emilia Approach?
Perhaps the best part of teaching at HIS Niseko is being able to better understand the Reggio Emilia Approach to learning. I am learning more and more about it each day as I watch our EY students. Thank you, MS. Lola for bringing your specific knowledge to our learning community.

 HIS Parent E-mailing List

Husky Parents!!
Do you ever have trouble receiving the weekly HEx, Husky-Info bulletins or other school-wide emails?  Do you have another email address to which you’d like to receive these electronic communications? If so, please email our communications coordinator at so we can update our mailing lists and include you as soon as possible!

 Zumba is up and "dancing!"

This is an HIS community activity, welcoming all ages! We have a wonderful, energetic teacher (Shiho-Sensei) who leads us from 5:30-6:15 every Thursday evening in the MPR (Sapporo). The cost is 500 yen for middle school and high schoolers and 1000 yen for adults.  Besides this very reasonable fee, all you need is some determination to give it a go, a pair of supportive athletic shoes, and comfortable clothing. Mrs. Oda (teacher) and Mrs. Atsuko Clipstone (HIS parent) are the contact people for this activity. If you need babysitting, please let Mrs. Oda (Rm #202)  know -- we will be trying to arrange something if there is a need. See you there! ZUMBA ON!!!!

 From PTA

Please note, all Steering Committee meetings are held on the first Wednesday of each month.  Any parent is welcome to attend, and please let Neil or Megumi know if you would like to become a regular (and voting) member of the committee.
