Weekend of Husky Pride & Sportsmanship

The weekend of basketball sportsmanship and competition is one to annually look forward to. The tournament brings international and local teams together for three days of spirited sport.

Our thanks as a community go out to the many parents, students, teachers and community members who came to support the weekend.

While there are many people to thank, particular thanks goes to our intrepid Mr. Kelly who puts so much time and effort into making the weekend such a success.

We look forward to the coming years and growing participation in this weekend.

Glasses for Sri Lanka

HIS and the Grade 11 class would like to express their sincerest thanks to Fuji Megane (Glasses) Company for their very generous donation of over 2300 pairs of glasses. This donation was made in response to an appeal in the Husky Express and through the school’s HIS Families and Friends facebook page for donations of glasses so the Grade 11 class can take them on their service learning trip to Sri Lanka. Glasses will be handed over to NPOs working to help individuals with a need for glasses who cannot afford them.

Fuji Megane is well-known for its support of the United Nations High Commission for Refugees and other UN organizations and annually donates thousands of pairs of glasses to help refugees and individuals caught in poverty and unable to afford a pair of glasses.

  From the Principal’s Office

PTA Steering Committee Meeting - This Wednesday February 8th at 3:45 in the teacher’s lounge.

Beginning of Semester 2: A reminder to all secondary students that if you were required to attend either office hours or study hall last semester, this obligation still continues in semester 2.  If parents or students would like clarification on this matter, please feel free to contact me directly.

Ainu Presentation: Many will remember that last year elementary students were visited by the Ainu cultural group “Uresspa”. Students were able to learn some Ainu language, dance and games.  This year, we are pleased to announce that Uresspa is returning  to present to the middle school in the MPR  on Tuesday, February 13 at 10:00 - 11:30.

After School Elementary Pickup:   Many thanks to parents for picking up children on time each afternoon last week.  When teachers already have many after school duties and responsibilities, it is very helpful when younger students are not running about in the MPR or up and down stairs past 3:45.

NOTE: If your child is in an afterschool activity, please remember that the pickup time will be 4:30

Thanks so much for your understanding.

Ice Sculpture 2017
Every year near JR Niseko. Local teams carve a variety of different snow sculptures for visitors and locals to enjoy. These sculptures provide a background to a variety of events and turn it into a magical winter wonderland. This year they are again looking for teams of people both corporate and private to create some sculptures and put your mark on 2017’s winter landscape.  Sports

It is always a fantastic weekend of basketball action for our annual SFC tournament. This year with 8 boys teams and 2 girls teams there were certainly heaps of people in the school over the weekend to see some great basketball played. Our Husky boys played well but finished up in 4th place with a 3-2 win/loss record. The girls beat the Nagoya girls to retain the Husky-Dolphin Challenge trophy. The tournament was won by our visitors from Kyoto who beat the mighty Hokkai HS in the semi final and then Nagoya IS in the final. A huge thanks to members of HAA who worked so tirelessly and efficiently over the weekend to keep everybody happy and games running on schedule. Also amazing work by Media manager Alex Togashi who set up the extremely popular live streaming. Thanks to everyone who came and supported the teams and filled up on food from the various classes who sold yummy goodies.
