Head of School
Annual Terry Fox Run - In partnership with the Canadian Trade Office, local marathon runners and supporters, HIS provides many of the resources to support this event. As a community that has been touched by cancer and a school that has lost a teacher to cancer, this is a valued way of contributing to our world and making a difference; another way that we can fulfill our commitment to the HUSKiES by demonstrating Social and Personal responsibility for the greater good.
The schedule for guests is as follows:
- Date: October 9
- Location - Toyohira Running Trail at Horohirabashi (Horohira Bridge)
- 9:00 - Reception Begins
- 9:30 - Opening Ceremony
- 10:00 - Run Begins
- 11:30 - Raffles
- 11:45 - Closing Ceremony
Come and run or walk the 1 km, 3 km, 5 km or 10 km course. As friends to donate to support you and join the fun!!

PTA BBQTHANKS - I would like to thank the PTA personally and the many PTA volunteers who came out to make the Open House BBQ such an amazing success. Co-Chairs Megumi Ando and Neil Cooke, thank you for your leadership!!

Parent Fall Festival Volunteers Needed - A letter and form from the PTA will be coming home in the next couple of days for parents to sign up to volunteer at the HIS Fall Festival (a highly enjoyable annual event).
The success of such events depends much on the contribution and cooperation of people from across the school. The recent success of the Community BBQ is a fine example of what can happen with many people pitching in - parents, students and teachers.
Please help out in any way if you can.
Secondary Progress Reports - With the end of the month approaching, we encourage you to log into PowerSchool on or after September 30 to see how your child is doing currently.
PowerSchool Login Information - Students will have received their PowerSchool login password from their homeroom teacher. As well, parents were mailed a letter with this information at the beginning of the school year. Note that parents and students use the same information, so if you did not receive these details, please check with your son or daughter.
Student Babysitters - Parents looking for babysitters are invited to look at the HIS Babysitter List 2016-17
In the next couple of days, I’ll be updating this list with details about availability and specific language and other skills the students have. Please feel free to contact one of these students if you are in need of a babysitter.
OPEN House-Thank You
Open House is a chance for prospective and current parents to watch our students and teachers learning together. Thank you to all parents, staff and teachers in creating yesterday’s special event.
Twenty families visited and a few guaranteed to join our school. Words like "perfect," "lovely,""delightful'" and "awesome" were heard from our prospective families.
It was a pleasure to see so many happy faces. Thank you all for a wonderful example of community building.
Our intrepid PTA is holding its annual Autumn Bazaar on Saturday, the 8th of August We would like to request donations of new or used items in good condition for sale on the day. As much as possible, items should be suitable for the winter season - coats, woollen garments, gloves, hats etc. but contributions will be greatly received.
Larger pieces such as skis, helmets and poles are more than welcome. Donations can be dropped in school by the sign on the stage area.

One of the really great things that exists in sport is the camaraderie between teams. This was evident in games that both our soccer and volleyball teams had last week. See pics of combined teams
This week our soccer boys have another game with Shoshi Gakkuen on Monday. We will also have 2 volleyball teams traveling south for WJAA tournaments. Good luck to the JV girls in Osaka and the very young MS girls who will be playing their first ever games under tournament conditions in Kobe. Good luck also and our appreciation to the coaches and chaperones who will accompany these teams over 4 days.
