Head of School
First Steps With Lesson Study- Teachers met last week in four teams to take their first steps with Lesson Study. As you may recall, April 25 will be a Professional Development Day for teachers and a school holiday so that all HIS teachers can dedicate a day to professional dialogue on lesson creation.
The program comes to us from the Center for the Collaborative Classroom. Its roots are found here in Japan but the system is influencing schools around the world. HIS is the first international school in Japan to make use of this immensely powerful program. A thanks to the four lead teachers: Mrs. Oda, Mr. Piazza, Mr. Pangier and Mrs. Shibuya.
Financial Assistance Applications - HIS Financial Assistance applications will be available from the office on April 6 through to the end of the month.

Spring Bazaar Organizing Meeting on Wednesday April 6 at 2:00
(Note that this replaces the regularly scheduled PTA Steering Committee Meeting).
Spring Bazaar Volunteers:
Thank-you everyone who has already volunteered for a job or two at the Spring Bazaar. If you’re willing to pitch in to make the bazaar a success, please find the sign up sheets on a table at the school entrance.
Spring Bazaar Donations for PTA Booth:
A huge thanks to everyone who has already dropped off goods for the the PTA to sell at the Spring Bazaar! A really great start!
If you have some items that you’d like to get rid of, but are not planning on having your own vending space at the bazaar, please consider a donation to the PTA. All proceeds from sales go toward grants to school programing (which directly benefit our children).
The donation box is at the front entrance to the school.
Spring Bazaar Vending Spaces:
There are still some spaces left! Please reserve a space at email@example.com or call HIS (011-816-5000) by Tuesday, April 12th
Recruitment of Prospective Families at HISNiseko
Thank you all that were able to participate in our discussion on student enrollment. I am encouraged with the team spirit that our teachers and parents share. I am proud of our work together.
As of this writing, the MP3 students are taking their Measure of Academic Progress standardized tests. It is a joy to see them so engaged in their assessments of learning.
As Neil Cooke, Principal of HIS Sapporo noted; this June, each MP3 student will receive a report detailing specific areas of academic growth and areas of need. I look forward to using each report as a guide for further instruction.
Please send any questions or comments my way.

Thank you very much for supporting the HIS elementary music program by attending "MUSICing" on March 17th.
A professionally made DVD and professionally taken photos will be available for you to purchase in early April. Please stay tuned for the announcement.
A very important note that there has been some hiccup between the music department and JASRAC (The Japanese Society for Rights of Authors, Composers and Publishers) regarding this year’s show (---Issues are dealt with quickly and properly, so things should be straightened out soon). We asked before the concert that there'd be no photographing or videotaping of the performance, but if you happened to have missed the announcement and taken photos or/and video during the performance, please refrain from sharing them with public or/and on social network sites (facebook, etc). Thank you very much for your corporation.
