Winter Celebration Thanks

Friday night was a wonderful chance to see so many of our community out to celebrate with us and I would like to thank the many parents, students and teachers whose presence and participation made it such a wonderful experience for all.

Wishing Everyone the Best of the Season

I would also like to take this chance to wish everyone in the HIS community a wonderful holiday season and Happy New Year!

 Coffee Morning

The topic of tomorrow’s Parent Coffee Morning will be Report Cards and Assessment @ HIS. Please join us from 8:30 to 9:30 in the Teacher’s Lounge (206)

  From the Principal’s Office

Huge thanks to Ms Kumgai, Ms Sugino, Mr Jansson and their students for all their hard work in preparation for the Winter Celebration! I heard from so many parents about how impressed they were in the quality of the performances and the enthusiasm of the students.

A reminder that this Thursday is the last school day before winter break (December 17).

A reminder that the next sitting of the SAT is on Saturday, January 23rd. Students wishing to take this exam should register online by December 15th and then inform me (so that I can arrange for them to be added to the HIS SAT roster).

Redesigned SAT Exams (as of May 7)
Everyone should be aware that, following the January SAT, the format of the exam will be redesigned.  I have information packages explaining the changes in my office.  Any student (or parent) who would like to pick one up, please drop by this week.  The May 7th SAT exam will include these changes.

 @ Niseko

Greetings from HISNiseko.

Winter Celebration
On Friday, December 11th, the MP1-MP3 visited the HIS Sapporo campus. This journey was a success. The students were treated to some highly polished performances. Our Niseko student singers performed quite admirably themselves. I was proud to lead them in singing Christmas songs from the past.

A big round of thanks to Melissa Moss and Yuki Suzuki for accompanying our performers. Also, thank you to Kyoko Senzai and Merek Sinclair for their tireless support.

Santa Project 2015 Progress Check:
Thank you kindly for all the donations for our Santa Project 2015. The donations were substantial. I will send a final financial report after Winter Break.

Kyoko Senzai coordinated efforts to buy individualized gifts for each of the over 100 orphans. This was quite an undertaking and I am thoroughly impressed with her service. Please kindly make sure to recognize Kyoko when you see her next.

On Tuesday,we will begin to gift wrap the gifts. Parents are slated to assist but we need a few more helping hands. All donors are welcome to join us at the Niseko campus to wrap and label the orphans’ gifts.

We begin wrapping at 8:45 and will continue until the job is finished. Tea will be provided and the students will sing a few Christmas Carols.

I especially need to thank Naruse san for his dedicated professionalism as school bus driver. He dealt with mechanical challenges, snow, ice, heavy fog, traffic and excited children to get all safely to Sapporo and back.

ASObook Christmas Party:
On Thursday afternoon, December 17, our students will sing Christmas Carols at the Niseko Town Library. Please kindly have your child bring a white shirt (preferably a long-sleeve) and black pants (or black jeans) and something red or green to wear for the Niseko Library visit.

HISNiseko students will sing at 14:45. Students will be dismissed from the town library. All are invited to sing along.

Dates to Remember:

  • December 15- Gift Wrap for Orphanages 8:45
  • December 17 -Secret Santa/ Pot Luck 11:00

The MS boys basketball teams can be very proud of their efforts and achievements at the Kobe tournament the weekend before last. The young Wolves team gained great experience under playing conditions and showed tremendous improvement. The Huskies had 2 easy wins against Marist and Kyoto and then lost their last 3 games narrowly to eventually place 4th out of 8 schools. Senior students Brian and Rishi are also to be congratulated for their fine coaching and encouragement to all their players. Thank you also to Mr Pangier and his wife Yuri for chaperoning over those  4 days. The HS girls have had a strong win against Seishin HS and a narrow loss to Seishu HS. On Tuesday they will play Sumikawa JH so come and cheer for them.  The HS boys easily beat Shoshi last  Monday and today they will play Hokkai HS. The MS girls played an excellent first up game with many new players against Nakanoshima last Thursday. Also, the annual Alumni/Teachers VS HS Boys game will be on this Thursday. Community Basketball will continue over the Winter Break each Wednesday evening. Busy times for all the teams.

Go Huskies !

 HIS Cheerleading Recruits
 Elementary Students

As the snowy season approaches, every year during the Snow Festival season, HIS hosts a basketball tournament here in our gym. The Snow Festival Classic showcases  the Junior Varsity Boys, Varsity Boys, and Varsity Girls teams. Our teams are joined by those from all around Hokkaido and even an international school in Nagoya.

In order to make the tournament more enjoyable for all, HIS Athletics is creating a Cheerleading Team for students in Early Years and Mileposts 1, 2 & 3. Boys and girls are both invited and practices will be every Thursday from 3:30~4:30. Practices will begin based on the availability of those who sign up. Performances will include the Pep Rally on Day 1 of the Tournament, Feb 5th, and the half-time show on Saturday, Feb 6th. If your child would like to join, please contact us as soon as possible!! We are looking forward to seeing everyone at practice!!

 Student Council One Yen Drive

HIS Student Council is currently raising money for an orphanage in Cameroon. Our fundraiser is called the one yen drive. There will be petroleum bottles in every class and classes will put one yen coins in the bottles. The goal is to collect as many one yen coins as possible. Our goal is to raise $800-$1000 this year. Funds raised will go towards building showers for those who live and work at the orphanage, as well as towards buying school supplies, computers and indoor cooking facilities. The fundraiser will run until February and donations will be made in March.

 College Corner

Seniors are now working on submitting materials for deadlines.
One area we’ve seen changes in are the requirements for students who are attending international schools abroad and need transcripts from previous schools to HIS. If you are in this category, please take time to contact those schools and request official transcripts. Even if the school accepts our combined transcript, visa applications may require originals.
